It takes a village

They say it takes a village to raise a child and I say, “Amen!” In today’s world, a community might be a better way to say it…and I got to see that first hand today.

I spent some time this afternoon looking at apartments with my CASA . One of my friends took time to show us what he had in his rental inventory.

He did this knowing she would be low income and not a “perfect” renter. He not only showed us what he had, but he printed out what would be available later that summer and what the rent would be.

He explained the process and answered all our questions. She left feeling a little more educated and little more sure about her plans. Is she going to rent an apartment from him? We’re not sure. But what a difference his interaction and time made.

Each of us is part of a community. Maybe your community is your family, maybe it’s your friends, but each of us is a piece of the larger community. How are you impacting your village?

P.S. My CASA is graduating this Sunday. Woo hoo! She has worked so hard wrapping up her classes while working almost 40 hours a week at her job. She’s so amazing!
